Priceless!

What is the value of your life?  Extensive research has been done by companies, government entities, judicial courts and insurance industries to determine the value of human life.  They all have their reasons as to why they need a monetary figure of what your life is worth; but can they ever fully measure the value of life?  From my calculations, it is impossible to measure the full worth of someone.  You can approximate life span and general health based on known factors, but the contributions to the earth by one person is immeasurable.  You can't calculate potential.  You cannot calculate intangible, but very real contributions in lives and families.  When someone tries to value or devalue your life, they had better watch out.  In all probability, they don't see who you really are.

You are a work of art.  A masterpiece.  A Designer's original.  How can man dare to try to assign a value to you.  Now a good appraiser will examine, study, analyze  a piece of art to ascertain its true worth.  They look at the style and condition of the piece being evaluated.  When examining God's people, they can see the external, but they can't see the uniqueness of the expression of God in us.  They can't see the gifts, the insights, the heart that the Savior has redeemed.  They may try to look at the artist's previous works to see if you, His artwork, are consistent with His techniques.  Our Creator is THE CREATOR.  From the creation of the aardvark to the zebra, you see His unique eye that He puts into everything He breathed life into.  There is some consistency in His uncommon designs, but they remain immeasurable.

The appraiser will also look at comparable works of the artist.  God's family is born of and filled with the same Spirit. Yet, He manifests Himself differently through each one according to His will.  When you view us through God's eyes, we are exquisite one of a kinds.  When examining the quality of the size, age, complexity and coloring of God's art, I believe most appraisers would quit at this point.  As much as experts try to label us as black, white, brown, yellow and red, none of those colors do justice to the tones and hues of God's family.  We are all different body types with varying features.  Some of us have thin noses, others big lips.  Still other have protruding foreheads, while others have long fingers.  Original? That's us. Valuable? Absolutely. Measurable? Impossible.

14 I will praise You, for £I am fearfully and wonderfully made;  Marvelous are Your works,  And that my soul knows very well. Psalms 139:14(NKJV)

Since our value is incalculable, let's not undervalue ourselves.  We are fearfully and wondrously made.  Shame on ourselves if we think we are not gifted, unattractive, dumb, stupid or worthless.  Those are words and descriptors originating from our enemy.  Don't believe the lies.  Believe God.  Not only  did He create us.  He knows us.  According to the bible, God knows us, our names and calls us by name (John 10:3, 14-15; Isaiah 43:1).  The word of God even goes further and tells us He knows what we need before we even ask us (Matthew 6:8).  Jesus said the very hairs of our heads are numbered.

3Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, making something at the wheel.  4And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make.  Jeremiah 18:3-4(NKJV)

What is your real value?  You are priceless!

But I Said In Jesus Name...

Before I became a believer, I knew to end every prayer with the phrase "In the Name of Jesus."  It was years after my salvation before I begin to think about why we say it all the time.  Even when someone prays and don't use those words, we insert it in our minds.  I think we believe if we tag His name on the end of a prayer or plaster it on a program, we have His stamp of approval.

"In His Name" is not a magical phrase or a lucky charm that allows us to do anything or get everything we want.  It denotes relationship.  I know many feel like we are in partnership with God.  We sing, "Jesus take the wheel" while we are still trying to shift the gears and press the gas and brake pedals.  He is the Leader and we are His followers.  Jesus' request was for us to follow Him, not walk with Him on equal footing.  When we learn to follow Him, we become friends, even family, who follow His lead.  After all, we see with very limited vision.  Our  truth is developed out of our very finite abilities to process information.  We make decisions based on known factors when there is so much we can't see or know.  On the other hand, God sees the whole picture - wait...He created the picture.  He knows all of the facts and details (including your desires).  He also knows, better than we do, all that we are capable of when we follow His lead and believe His word.

14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.  Romans 8:14(NKJV)

I firmly believe you can walk so closely with God that His leading becomes transparent in the spirit realm.  In other words, you are following so intimately that you know you are on course and if you deviate, you sense it immediately.  It is that "oneness" with Him, that releases Him to answer your prayers, even the unspoken ones.  It is that agreement between His role and your role, that allows you to freely ask and receive.

21that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.  22And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:
23I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.  John 17:21-23(NKJV)

In Jesus name  is more than a statement, a mantra, a magic-prayer-granting-ending to your petitions.  It is a lifestyle of agreement with the Almighty One.  When we really choose to follow, we no longer make plans, rattle off prayer desires and check off our weekly commitments of time with Him by adding that phrase.  Instead, we approach the day with an openness and flexibility that allows Him to see through your actions that you live IN HIS NAME.

12“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.  13And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  14If you £ask anything in My name, I will do it.  John 14:12-14(NKJV)

I pray that you truly let Him take the wheel and lead you each and every day - In Jesus Name!

Peek a Boo

Have you ever played peek-a-boo with a child?  It is a game of hide and seek, but in plain sight.  It's a very simple game, but one little kids typically enjoy playing.  Many believers seem to play the same game with God.  They duck their heads as if God can't see them hiding.  Just because we can't see Him, doesn't mean His eyes are not on us.  We fool ourselves with our limited vision.  I think sometimes we feel like if we stay away from church, God loses sight of us and our behavior.  The out of sight out of mind thinking.  Though the Lord no longer presents Himself in flesh and blood human form, He is very much present with us.  He is with you everywhere you go.  Beloved, He sees you.

24 Can anyone hide himself in secret places, So I shall not see him?” says the Lord;     “Do I not fill heaven and earth?” says the Lord. Jeremiah 23:24(NKJV)

One of the names of God is "El Roi" meaning the God who sees.  The only reference to this particular name of God is in Genesis 16.  Hagar, a maidservant to Sarai, was given to Sarai's husband Abram as a wife.  After becoming pregnant with Abram's child, she was kicked out of the camp because she no longer viewed Sarai with respect. Hagar ran off from the only authority she knew in her life, but was confronted by the ultimate authority in God.  After an encounter with the presence of the Lord, she promptly called Him - El Roi, the God who Sees.

God sees all.  He sees the good, the bad, the ugly, the beautiful.  He saw Hagar's obedience as she was given to Sarai's husband at Sarai's request; and he saw Hagar's heart as she despised her patron.  He saw it all.  Instead of just berating her for running off, El Roi let her know that He saw her and then gave her direction, hope and the plan for the son she had yet to birth.

Like Hagar, you may be running from God.  You may have gotten hurt in church or disappointed because of struggles in life.  It may be because you don't like the expectations found in the Word of God or you simply don't believe God likes you.  Maybe you don't think you matter to God.  Let me assure you, you matter.  El Roi sees you, loves you and knows you.  You can run all you want, but He is right there with you.  I think Psalm 139:7-12 sums it up best:

7Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? 8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there;  If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. 9If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me. 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall £fall on me,”  Even the night shall be light about me; 12 Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You. Psalms 139:7-12(NKJV)

You may say Peek a Boo, but God says, "I see YOU!"
